Broadleaf weeds in Bermuda can be effectively controlled this time of year with a product called Weed-Free-Zone by Fert-ti-lome. It is sprayed on, easy to apply and works quickly. Grass-like weeds are much more difficult and best controlled by applying a pre-emergent granular before the problem arises. Apply pre-emergent in October and March.

My neighbor has many Live Oak trees and I have shoots come up from acorns falling into my yard and sprouting. Hope this helps a little.

I planted 5 plants in my front yard and as soon as the tender young leaves appeared, the deer would eat the plants down to just sticks. After nursing them for a couple of years, I replaced them with dwaft Chinese Holly which are doing just fine.

They are oak trees sprouting from the seeds the tree has thrown.

Using the Home Defense Spray helps, yet is not eradicating them completely.

I am wondering what causes the shoots that come up all over the yard. I was also wondering about adding mulch to the soil around the live oak trees. About how deep should the mulch be?
